East Peoria, Ill. – The Center for Prevention of Abuse (CFPA) is hosting its 8th annual I Run with Survivors 5K run/1 mile walk on Saturday, April 12 at 8 a.m. in the Levee District in East Peoria, Illinois in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and those impacted by sexual violence. Registration is now open, and participants can use the code EARLYBIRD5 at checkout to receive $5 off registration through March 1, 2025. Register for the event here: https://shorturl.at/Bq4Vc.

The registration fee for adult walkers and runners is $35, and the fee for participants 17 and under is $20, both of which include a commemorative event t-shirt. Children 3 years old and younger are free to participate with family, and do not need to register. The course is stroller, wheelchair, and pet-friendly, ensuring everyone can join in. Participants are encouraged to wear their commemorative t-shirts and teal items to create a “sea of teal” in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The first 50 participants to sign up will receive a CFPA drawstring bag. CFPA encourages participants to rally their friends and family to either join them in the event or to donate through the online fundraising platform.

“The I Run with Survivors 5K and 1-mile walk is a powerful way for our community to come together in support of those impacted by sexual violence,” said Carol Merna, Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Prevention of Abuse. “By gathering your friends and family and participating in this event, you show survivors they are not alone – they are believed and supported. Every step taken on April 12th brings us closer to our vision of building a safer, more peaceful community.”

Proceeds from this event support CFPA’s free and confidential services for survivors of sexual violence. Race day activities include photo opportunities and refreshments after the race. CFPA services for all survivors of interpersonal violence and abuse are 100% free and confidential. The crisis hotline is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-559-SAFE (7233).
