Dating violence can happen to anyone . not just adults. In fact, teen dating violence is so prevalent that 1 in 3 teens report being physically and/or sexually abused by a dating partner (Liz Claiborne Inc. and Family Violence Prevention Fund).
Odds are that you or someone you know has been in an abusive relationship. Maybe you're here because you're wondering if your relationship is healthy, or maybe you want to help a friend who is being abused.
First, know that healthy dating partners respect each other and your rights to:
Does your boyfriend/girlfriend respect you and your dating rights? If your dating partner violates even one of those rights, then you may be in an unhealthy, and potentially violent, dating relationship.
Take a look at the Teen Dating Violence Power and Control wheel. If you are experiencing any of these behaviors from your dating partner, then your relationship is unhealthy and abusive.
