SEXUAL ASSAULT/ABUSE
Trained staff offer a variety of assistance to victims of sexual assault/abuse of any age. These services include:
- Individual Counseling and Support Groups
Short term counseling is available to victims of sexual assault and/or child sexual abuse. Counseling is also provided for significant others and families of the victims. Support groups are available for recent survivors of sexual assault, adult survivors of incest and childhood sexual abuse.
- Medical Advocacy
Trained advocates are available 24 hours a day to meet sexual assault survivors and their families at hospital emergency rooms. Advocates provide emotional support, information and arrange for emergency shelter or transportation as needed.
- Criminal Justice Advocacy
Advocates support the client and her/his family and may assist as a liaison between law enforcement agencies, state's attorneys offices and other agencies.
- Public Education and Professional Training
Trained staff members present educational programs on topics such as Date/Acquaintance Rape, Sexual Assault Prevention, Sexual Harassment and Child Sexual Abuse. "Better Safe Than Sorry", the largest child sexual abuse prevention program in Illinois, teaches prevention strategies and safety tips to youth from pre-school through high school.
