helping survivors

Listen. Be there. Don?t be judgmental.

Your friend has been violated and victimized. Be there for her, but don?t make decisions for her.

Give options. Let your friend know that he or she has the option of reporting the rape to law enforcement authorities.

Give information. Tell your friend that she can call The Center For Prevention of Abuse hotline at 1-800-559-SAFE for support. An advocate can provide the information your friend will need to make the report.

Be patient. Remember that it will take your friend some time to deal with trauma.

Empower. Let your friend know that professional help is available through The Center For Prevention of Abuse and encourage him to call our hotline.

Respect. The decisions are up to your friend as only he will know what he is comfortable doing. Respect his decisions.
