Educators play an important role in the prevention and intervention of violence.

Statistics show the following about educators and reports of abuse/violence:

· Teachers are responsible for approximately 25% of the reports of abuse, but have the lowest rate of substantiation

· They report more cases of child abuse and neglect than any other institution (This makes sense since teachers have daily contact with children during the work week than any
other profession.)

· 84% of cases identified in schools are never reported

· School personnel report only 24% of recognized cases

· School personnel are the largest source of over- and under-reporting
