25 News: Center for Prevention of Abuse launches social media campaign to highlight lack of state funding
PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) — The continued lack of progress on the state budget in Springfield has the Center for Prevention of Abuse asking for help.
The Center has created the “Be the Bridge” social media fundraiser to spread awareness and bridge the gap in state funding.
Currently, the Center has a $203,000 deficit. If they’re not reimbursed by the state, it’s possible they might have to tap into their own reserves.
“The funding that we are missing, our domestic violence funding is for our two shelters. I think it’s important to say that last year we’ve provided over 7,100 shelter nights to people just in central Illinois,” said Carol Merna, the Center’s executive director.
The Center is asking the community to post a picture holding a sign with “#iamthebridge.”
